Tell us about yourself
Hi! We’re Steve & Sarah Hunter. Steve is a journeyman carpenter with over a dozen years of experience, and Sarah is naturally creative with a lifetime of new projects and artistic ideas behind her.
Both raised in the Fraser Valley, we took the opportunity to come and enjoy everything the North Peace has to offer in 2013. More than that, we’re a part of a family. We believe that “home” is a place you should want to be! We’re two people who want our space to reflect the way we feel about it, and the love we have for the people that walk through our door. The atmosphere of our home is so important to us. It’s where we enjoy life, where we learn and grow, where the time passes too fast, where we’re grateful for what we have, and where we dream about all the wonderful things yet to come.
We created Kindred Co. so we could share the things that make our space meaningful to us with people who feel the same way about their homes. If you are a sentimental, nostalgic type… then we’re kindred!
Tell us about your products
We are woodworkers who build, craft, reclaim, repurpose, and collaborate on every product we make. We feel that reclaimed wood has a special property- It’s able to bring along a unique story and
rich character when it's made into a new product. This means that we can never recreate the exact same item twice!
We also work with new lumber, of course! We use as much of the wood as we can, aiming to reduce waste and be practical stewards of this amazing, renewable resource. From custom frames for art and photos, to wall hanging art and signs, to furniture featuring reclaimed elements, you never know what you might find us making next. We love to follow our ideas and create new things, but you’ll nearly always find us stocked with some favorites like standard size picture frames, serving trays, centerpieces, and interesting wall hangings for your gallery wall.
What are your creative business goals
We’re so excited for the future of our business! We’re looking forward to many more years of creating, completing custom work for people to enjoy, and love the idea of building our business so that we can also build opportunities to give back to our community, and build the future we choose for our family. Our aim is to create more time in our lives for more projects and more experiences together.
What’s the best part about being a creative entrepreneur
Having the opportunity to create items that we love, and then to be able to share those things with others who appreciate what we’ve made is a really amazing thing. When someone takes something home for themselves or buys a gift for a loved one, we take it as a huge compliment! We put a little bit of ourselves in to everything we make, and someone else has chosen to love it as much as we do! We’re honoured that people choose our items for their homes, their friends, and their offices. The best part is meeting people, and watching them select or design an item with care and consideration that they'll add in to their life, knowing they will enjoy it for years to come.
What would your customers say about you and your business?
Maya Angelou said that people may forget what you do or say, but they won’t forget how you made them feel. We know that people may not remember all of the details of their purchases, but we do hope they’ll remember the calm, or the joy, or the excitement they felt when they chose something from our shelves for their home. And it’s our most sincere hope that our customers will remember feeling welcomed and valued when they interacted with us!
